This month’s Q&A we’re interviewing Lily Fortescue, the co-founder of Worn. Worn is a sustainable fashion brand, offering the best pre-loved items from the most highly coveted wardrobes in London. Usually based at 280 Brompton Road, SW3 2BS, but are currently continuing business online at Officially Worn.
What made you want to start Worn?
Realising how many clothes sit in all our wardrobes that we no longer want but that someone else will LOVE... Fast fashion is going to kill the planet, so pre-loved is the only option for the future!
When you were younger what did you want to be?
A vet.
What has been your favourite Worn moment to date?
Seeing the response from worn friends and ‘fans’ - shows us we’re onto something good!
What is the favourite aspect of the concept?
Getting to work with such amazing clothes and accessories that connect us to our loyal customers; we’re building a real loyal community which is amazing to see!
What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
Don’t make permanent decisions on temporary feelings.
If you had to choose one item of clothing for sale at Worn right now what would it be?
We have the most stunning croc Alexander Wang jacket with studs which is so unique and such a piece, I would have to say that.
Who is your ultimate business inspiration?
Sara Blakely, the founder of SPANX, is incredible. To achieve what she has achieved whilst taking no investment and having 4 kids to top it off is pretty mega.
What trend do you predict will be the biggest in 2020?
Post Coronavirus Quarantine anything that will involve going out and socialising - think colourful, short and fun.
What are 3 words to describe yourself?
Confident, chatty & kind (I hope)
What are 3 words to describe your brand?
Sustainable, the future & fashionable.
What is the secret to success?
Being consistent and persistent.
What advice would you give to future female generations?
Never quit and always ask questions, no matter how stupid they sound.
What motivates you?
Myself - aiming to be the best version of myself.

Louis Theroux, Jack Nicholson and Werner Herzog.

Being so fortunate to be able to do what I love.

What is your spirit animal?
A panda, I love them.
What is the best thing about having your own business?
Having the visions and being able to put them in place, and seeing the growth and change that occur daily, weekly and monthly ...
What is the hardest thing about having your own business?
You never really have a day “off” and your phone is constantly being used for emails etc. But when it’s your company; you don’t care as you want to sort everything as it comes.
What is something you’re currently working on?
We’re working on some pretty exciting collaborations ...!
What will Worn look like in 10 years time?
Worn will be the ultimate pre-loved shopping experience!
